Between July and December the cliffs of De Kelders are arguably the best land based whale watching spot in the world when the southern right whales frequent our waters. The Klipgate hiking trail meandering a long the De Kelders cliffs with various paths that lead down to the rocks were the Right whales wallow in the shallow, protected coves of De Kelders and often approach to within a few meters of the shore and therefore is ideal to experience these magnificent creatures.
Your first sign of the presence of these wonderful creatures is likely to be its blow, which is a tall plume of water that disperses after a few seconds.
